Bruce Pearl has been one of the most consistently successful coaches in the country, taking Tennessee to its first ever Elite Eight appearance in 2010 and becoming one of only five active coaches at the time with 10 or more Sweet 16 appearances to his credit.
Pearl himself believes that observing other coaches in early season practice one of the best ways to learn how to be a better coach and make your team better. In this three-DVD set, Coach Pearl gives you access to his own early season practices with his Elite Eight team.
FAST BREAK OFFENSE
One of the toughest things to do on defense is to get back on transition. See how Pearl and his team put as much "pressure on the rim" as possible. Pearl teaches the fast break using breakdown drills and shares several of the options his players have on the offensive end of the court. He also emphasizes taking smart shots and trusting your teammates to rebound. This philosophy has helped Tennessee become one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country.
If you want to have freedom on the fast break, you need to create possessions on defense. Coach Pearl does this by using full-court pressure. He breaks down his defense starting with ball entry and emphasizing deflections and trapping.
All of Coach Pearl's drills are meant to teach and enforce his brand of up-tempo play. Are you looking to shore up your transition offense and defense? If so, Pearl's passing and shooting drills and situational and build-up drills on defense will provide you with a great library to build from. Positional drills break down offensive and defensive roles for post and perimeter players.
Pearl's up-tempo, ball pressure strategy has helped Tennessee beat some of the best teams in the country. By viewing game footage from many of these great wins you will see how Pearl's offense and defense really work against tough opponents.
In Bruce Pearl's first five years as head coach at Tennessee, the Vols never failed to reach the 20-win mark or NCAA Tournament and were the winningest program in the SEC.
